March Assignments
March 2nd
Barrons Practice Test
Do Practice A.2.
Readings:
Thoreau: I've already assigned these but I want to spend some time on them this week and discuss in class on the 24th.
"On Civil Disobedience": http://thoreau.eserver.org/wendy.html
"Life without Principle": http://thoreau.eserver.org/life1.html (Be sure to read both parts).
Enemy of the People by Ibsen. I had you buy this before the beginning of the year. It's really quite good and a worthwhile companion to discussions about the merits of "the people", a free press, thwarted genius, and right and wrong.
Vocabulary and Rhetorical Terms
Prepare for Q-Z vocab.
Quiz Q-Z assigned and in the "Exam" folder and due for March 9th class.
Remember:
1) For the vocabulary words you need to construct three sentences using each word (try to come up with at least one absurd sentence that properly uses the word. I find that absurdity helps usage and definition stick in the brain a bit).
2) For the rhetorical terms you need to find three examples of each (I have no problems with you using the power of google here to find examples and in fact encourage it to help clarify the terms in definition and usage) and then write two of your own examples (this can be a bit tricky at times).
3) Construct a paragraph on any topic you wish using six of the vocabulary words and two of the literary techniques. I recommend you use this as an opportunity to practice those concepts that you find most tricky.
March 10th
Practice Test:
Go to Barrons Test Folder. Select Princeton Test #1.
Over the course of the week do the multiple choice practice test. Also write rough drafts for (gasp) all three of the essays. I will be uploading tonight a couple additional readings to flesh out some of the new themes that appear in the essays.
March 17th
Go to Barrons Test Folder. Select Princeton Test #2.
Over the course of the week do the multiple choice practice test.
Writing: Keep working on your papers. We will not do an exchange. They will be due this Tuesday.
Reading:
J.B. Sanford "Argument Against Women's Suffrage": http://sfpl.org/pdf/libraries/main/sfhistory/suffrageagainst.pdf
Lucy Stone "The Progress of Fifty Years": http://www.infoplease.com/t/hist/congress-of-women/11.html
Elizabeth Cady Stanton "Seneca Falls Address": http://www.greatamericandocuments.com/speeches/stanton-seneca-falls.html
Susan B. Anthony "After Being Convicted of Voting": http://www.famous-speeches-and-speech-topics.info/famous-speeches-by-women/susan-b-anthony-speech.htm
I may add another speech before this is all over.

Re: March Assignments
Mr Peterson,
I didn't see a bubble in type answer sheet with Princeton test 1 for our multiple choice answers. Should we just copy one off from one of the Barrons tests?
